Danone remix yogurts: a nostalgic throwback with modern twists

A trip down yogurt memory lane

As a child of the 2000s, I have vivid recollections of the yogurt aisle – a vibrant landscape of flavors beyond imagination! Strawberry cheesecake, Key lime pie…the options seemed endless. Yoplait, YoCrunch, and even Activia (the one no kid truly wanted!) lined the shelves. But it was the dreamy, mousse-like Yoplait Whip that truly captured my heart. And, of course, Danimals and Go-Gurts were essential lunchbox staples. The yogurt scene has evolved considerably since then.

The rise of greek yogurt and new contenders

The biggest shift? The undeniable dominance of Greek yogurt. Newer brands like Chobani, Siggi’s, and Ellenos have emerged, expanding our palates with innovative flavor combinations. Chobani's limited-edition fruit punch yogurt last summer was a revelation, something I couldn’t have conceived of as a kid. Siggi's has introduced yuzu-inspired options, and Ellenos debuted a delightful birthday cake flavor. While these premium yogurts can cost upwards of $3.50 per cup, Danone is proving that classic brands can still deliver quality and affordability.

Danone's remix: bringing back the crunch

Danone, the company behind beloved brands like Danimals and Activia, is embracing a nostalgic vibe with its new Remix yogurt line. These cups feature a crunchy topping – cookie or granola – reminiscent of the early days of YoCrunch. Crucially, each cup boasts a substantial 11-12 grams of protein, making them a satisfying snack. The Remix yogurts are now available at major retailers across the U.S., including Target, Publix, Kroger, Albertsons, Wakefern, Hannaford, Stop & Shop, and Meijer.

Flavor breakdown: caramel apple snickerdoodle pie & cookies & cream

The Light + Fit Remix Caramel Apple Snickerdoodle Pie flavor features apple pie-flavored Greek yogurt with a mix of snickerdoodle pieces, white fudge chunks, and cinnamon sprinkles. The Oikos Remix Cookies & Cream offers vanilla nonfat yogurt with cocoa cookie crumbles and white fudge chunks. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get my hands on the Caramel Apple Snickerdoodle Pie, but I did manage to sample the Cookies & Cream and Berry Dark Chocolate Crisp.

My review: cookies & cream – a nostalgic miss?

The Cookies & Cream Remix immediately evoked memories of the classic YoCrunch Oreo cups. The vanilla yogurt itself was creamy and flavorful, but the cocoa cookie crumbles and white fudge chunks were surprisingly understated – especially once mixed in. The pieces are considerably smaller than those nostalgic Y2K YoCrunch cups, so the satisfying crunch was somewhat lacking. It’s a decent option, but doesn’t quite recapture the magic of the original.

Berry dark chocolate crisp: a sweet success

On the other hand, the Oikos Remix Berry Dark Chocolate Crisp was a clear winner. This yogurt perfectly embodies a Valentine’s Day vibe, with its chocolate-covered strawberry essence. While I sometimes find berry and dark chocolate combinations overwhelming, this version struck a beautiful balance – sweet but not cloying, and with a good proportion of fruit and chocolate. The inclusion of granola added a welcome textural element and made the snack feel more substantial and filling.

Looking ahead: what’s next for yogurt?

Danone's Remix line marks a promising start to 2026, and I'm genuinely excited to see where the world of yogurt innovation heads next. It’s a testament to the enduring appeal of this versatile Food, and Danone’s ability to adapt and cater to evolving tastes. Will we see more nostalgic throwbacks? Perhaps even a Yoplait Whip revival? Only time will tell!
